D-Link DI-624 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, 4-Port Switch, 802.11g, 108Mbps

D-Link continuously stands at the leading edge of wireless networking as it delivers the 802.11g ultra high-speed Wireless Router with up to 108 Mbps transfer speed at 2.4 GHz. The advance filter feature allows the user to predefine the filter to block any unwanted websites. The DI-624 features enhanced firewall security as the Network Address Translation allows you to share a single IP address and protects you from outside intruders gaining access to your private network. Several wireless client can also securely connect to the network using 802.1X for wireless user authentication, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) providing you a much higher level of security. When you have multiple VPN clients on your network, the VPN multiple/concurrent session helps give you better security.

Now the popular D-Link Xtreme G wireless just got faster, while maintaining adherence to the IEEE 802.11g standard. A new free firmware upgrades D-Link 802.11g Xtreme G products to deliver the Industry’s fastest performance, up to 15 times faster than 802.11b. At 108Mbps data bandwidth the 802.11g D-Link Xtreme G DI-624 with enhanced 108 delivers excellent and consistent data rate throughput. The D-Link Xtreme G with enhanced 108 features the industry’s first default 108Mbps "Dynamic Mode" that allows clients to always operate at the highest possible speeds while automatically identifying and recognizing other D-Link Xtreme G products for highest performance capability and seamless access to the wireless network in a homogenous environment. Extensive performance and interoperability testing using standard based methods including NetIQ’s Chariot software reveals a significant increase in performance of the D-Link Xtreme G over other 802.11g based competitors. The D-Link Xtreme G DI-624 with 108 Mbps upgrade employs five cutting-edge hardware-based compression technologies to achieve a significant boost in performance within the 2.4 GHz frequency range.   Packet Bursting: The packet bursting technique puts more data into a single transmission, allowing more raw data to be stuffed into each packet and as a result not only delivers much more data, but also executes this process with less traffic on the network. Packet bursting transforms lengthy binary code into simple equations, resulting in an overall reduction in the number of 1s and 0s being sent over the network. It is also the technique defined as one of the methods for performance improvement in the IEEE 802.11e QOS draft standard. Fast Frames: The fast frames technique enhances data throughput by increasing the number of bits sent per data frame and accelerating the timing of a data frame with a dynamic transmit optimizations. This technology enhances the Packet Bursting capability synergistically to provide accelerated performance results. The fast frames technique is also based on the 802.11e QOS draft standard. Hardware Compression and Encryption: Xtreme G uses the Atheros AR5002 chipset which employs special engines to compress and encrypt data. These hardware engines operate in real-time to enhance throughput by implementing standard algorithms and compressing data prior to transmission and after reception. Multi-Channel Bonding: Multi-Channel Bonding embraces two radio channels simultaneously. It collapses the available channels from 12 to 6 for increased bandwidth on the available channels. Single and double channels are not run at the same time. This technology senses single channel and dual channel frames and negotiates time-based solutions with priority on single channel processing. Select Mode: Select Mode gives users the option of locking the Xtreme G products into a Static mode (instead of the default Dynamic mode) for even higher performance within a complete D-Link 108Mbps Xtreme G environment.   The D-Link 802.11g DI-624 Xtreme G features robust security to protect the wireless network from intruders, complying with the latest wireless networking security protocols, including WEP encryption and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) support for both 802.1x and WPA-PSK. The DI-624 is also capable of supporting the government-grade AES encryption and upcoming 802.11i standards. In addition to being the industry’s fastest wireless network solution, It includes management settings and policy-based content filtering for advanced network management. Filters can be set based on MAC address, IP address, URL and/or Domain Name.   The D-Link Xtreme G DI-624 with 108 upgrade is ideal for creating a fast and affordable wireless network, delivering the industry’s fastest wireless network performance. D-Link Xtreme G is also the only 802.11g solution with 108Mbps mode that remains fully interoperable and compatible with all 2.4GHz devices, capable of creating one homogenous network environment for the multi-vendor environment. IMPORTANT NOTE: This 108 Mbps firmware upgrade is currently available for revision C (1 antenna) only. Firmware for upgrading to 108 Mbps is not yet available for Revision A & B.

The last either had bad reception problems, bad connection problems or just stopped working. They both were SMC systems. They both were small nightmares to get up and running, and of course customer support sucked. I got rid of my last wireless system which was 802.11a which I bought because I thought it was much better. I am not a computer wiz I'll admit that but this technology should be easy for people like me to set up and use. I am who they sell this stuff to.I read reviews and decided to get this system with the D-link DWL-G650. I held my breath when I started setting it up. I was waiting for the minute when I would realize that I would need to call customer support. That didn't happen. This system did almost set itself up. I have a 2.4GHz phone and it doesn't seem to effect the range. I live in a brick house and I just went outside in my driveway, on the other side of house from where my wireless router is set up and I was getting almost 100% full signal strength. The online interface is very easy to use and the instructions are easy to follow. I did upgrade the firmware before I set up any of the hardware and the 108Mbps system is up and running. I can't say if this system will work tomorrow, but today I am very suprised at how it works. 68 of 75 people found the following review helpful. Works perfectly By Milos Eric Compatibility issues are always present and, depending on hardware you already have, there is a chance that any given router will not work for you. That said, I had a chance to test my DI-624 on four networks (both LAN/Ethernet and Wireless B/G) and it worked perfectly. Cable modems I've used were Motorola, Cisco and Netgear. I know D-Link's tech support is somewhat sketchy in the US, but I don't think this is a product you'd need support on. It self-explanatory, really. You can access it's configuration interface from any PC that's connected to one of it's four LAN ports via Internet browser on 192.168.0.1. However, there's only wireless SSID and optional password to set, everything else in plug and play. Unless you want to customize firewall, DHCP and things like that. Actually, there's a demo of this interface on manufacturer's site so you can check it out yourselves. Using DI-624 in a home network with 3 "wired" PCs and 2 wireless notebooks has been a trouble free experience. Suddenly, all 5 PCs were connected to the Internet and were in LAN. It's range is superb - I can connect to it from the parking, which is some 300ft from my builing, and router is on the 5th floor, behind a reinforced concrete wall. Of course, inside the apartment itself, reception is always perfect. I just had to set password, though, so I wouldn't provide free wireless Internet to entire building. 31 of 34 people found the following review helpful. Low price for faulty hardware = waste of money By Donovan G. Rinker EDIT: After a firmware upgrade, the unit is working far better, and has been in use for about 3 months at my residence. Still, it drops out intermittently, and there are better choices. (1) Drops connections - a lot. (2) Many - hundreds of websites - report the same problem. (3) D-Link hired lots of marketers to write good opinions of this device. Don't trust them. (4) I know what I'm doing. I've set up my computer on literally a dozen different networks without a problem, and configured routers of various stripes for almost a decade. This isn't a newbie error - I was floored for many hours trying to get this thing to work. (5) It still doesn't work reliably. (6) This issue isn't a 'bad unit' issue - many other people sent in their D-Link routers, got a new one, and had exactly the same problem. Bottom line: one of the worst purchases I have made -- and I know what I'm doing. AVOID AVOID AVOID! See all 469 customer reviews...

2Wire HomePortal 1000HW DSL Modem and Network Router

The 2Wire HomePortal 1000HW is a wireless base station for the home or small office network with a built-in DSL modem to make the connection to the Internet and a wireless 802.11b router and access point to share the connection. ? The built-in professional-grade firewall helps to protect your network from outsiders. ? Supports HomePNA 2.0 and 1.0 ? The 2Wire HomePortal 1000HW comes with both USB and Ethernet networking ports, providing flexibility and compatibility.

Good product for simple tasks By Under the Influence My 1000H Homeportal has been a solid performer and was extremely easy to install. I have been using it for three years and have had no problems. However, I don't recommend this device unless you are looking for the cheapest, most reliable solution to sharing an Internet connection, files and printer between computers. The 2Wire 2700HG-B DSL Modem Router Wireless Access Point currently sells for about the same price and is a much better product. The 1000HW acts as the network Access Point for up to four PCs, which can then simultaneously share a single internet connection, printers, and files between any of the computers. The Homeportal has only one ethernet and one USB 1.1 connection, meaning that the connection of more than one PC to the unit will require Wireless networking or a seperate device that allows multiple ethernet cable connections. The Homeportal is limited to Wireless 802.11B connections. This means slower connection than 802.11G when networking wirelessly, and definitely not a good thing for those looking to stream music or video files or any video rich Internet content. Given that, I highly recommend getting the 2Wire 2700HG-B DSL Modem Router Wireless Access Point. The 2700HG-B is 802.11G and allows four ethernet connections. The 1000HW has a built-in firewall that will provide all the security most users need when coupled with Anti-virus software, and requires no configuring by the user. For those who want to create more access to their network, the 2Wire software allows more advanced users that flexibility also. It is capable of WEP and WPA encryption modes. Pros: - cheap - easy to install - very reliable Cons: - only one Ethernet connection - USB 1.1 not the faster 2.0 - 802.11b is too slow for those whose primary interest is streaming digital entertainment (music, videos, photos), need 802.11G, and probably 802.11N if wanting to stream Hi-Definition content - Can probably get a 802.11g product from 2Wire or other manufacturer for about the same price and will need the extra speed to meet the future demands of Media rich content used at home or in the office. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Good performance but doesn't support WPA2 By L. Lim I've had this modem/router for nearly 5 years, and its performance is very good. It has had intermittent problems with maintaining signal which required "rebooting" (i.e. disconnecting the power) on some occasions, but for the most part it is very reliable. It is able to detect many other neighborhood networks - not that it matters, since all these networks are secured. My only complaint is that it only supports the inferior WEP encryption. WPA2 is not possible with this model. 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. This is an old XP device w/ limited support. By Tag I wanted a used DSL modem to avoid signing a contract with AT&T. I foolishly purchased a used 2Wire 1000HW on Amazon without first checking to see if it was compatible with my crappy Vista 64-bit operating system. The seller didn't mention that the driver disc wasn't included, which is normally not a problem, because downloading drivers is easy from most manufacturer's website... emphasis on "most". 2Wire is an unfortunate exception. 2wire(.)com is a very limited website with marginal technical assistance, which is why they get 2 stars. In the FAQ section, they state: "2Wire Inc., AS A COMPANY, fully supports Windows Vista. 2Wire will work quickly to resolve any compatibility issues as they are reported, both through internal testing and via customer feedback. Unless specified otherwise, "Windows Vista" in this FAQ refers to all editions of the operating system." Unfortunately, that simple statement above is as far as their "support" goes. There are NO Vista drivers, NO patches, or anything else for that matter. They say they support it, but

I did a lot of research, reading up on the technology and the reviews before I bought this router, and it won by default, because I wanted the new, longer-range 802.11n (draft) technology and all the reviews on existing products with "n (draft)" were just terrible, but this product was too new to have any reviews! OK, not great reasoning on my part, but the other piece of my thinking was that maybe the latest to market had more time to correct the bugs of the other products... Score! D-Link got it right with this baby. It did take a while to get it set up, but I've found that's true of most wireless routers. Read the documentation carefully, follow the directions carefully, and then call tech support when it doesn't work! But the D-Link support was helpful and got me through the problems. Oddly, it didn't seem to work consistently for the first day after setup and then it somehow just settled down, like it decided it liked this place or something. (It may also have been that I was actually too close to the router. It doesn't work well within about 6 feet.) After that first day, I haven't had one time-out, no need to re-boot, and no oddly lowered signal strength like I've experienced on other routers. I took my laptop outside and went for a walk with it and I live in the middle of the block and was able to get acceptable signal on either corner, half a block away! Across the street was a breeze. Location matters. The manual says to pay attention to physical barriers and place the router so that the signal goes through them on the way to a receiver at close to a 90 degree angle, because a smaller angle means the signal has to travel through a lot more solid material. I also think setting it up on end in the stand that is included helped a little. Do try several different locations. I should also note that I bought this with a D-Link cable modem Model DCM-202 and they seem to work well together. I have NOT bought an "n" adapter card for my laptop, so all this great reception is with a "g" class adapter. Using an N-draft adapter should improve signal even more. Note: don't be fooled by earlier "n compatible" routers. They aren't. If they don't say "n (draft)" then they WON'T be compatible with the final N standard, due out late this year or next year. Draft N routers should be compatible, but there are no guarantees. I bought this to get the extra range and signal strength, and I'm glad I did, but don't get too excited about the extra speed, because your "high-speed" broadband provider is a bottleneck, unless you have fiber-optic to the door! The draft n standard is good for over 100 mbps, but I have the fastest Comcast cable service available and it's 8 mbps! The only thing the extra speed of the router is good for is transfering data over your own internal network. If you have to swap huge video files and the like between computers on your own home network, then you'll appreciate the extra speed, but you won't notice anything on the Internet. 42 of 43 people found the following review helpful. A quality piece of equipment By Koby It's pretty difficult to make a wireless network router simple to configure and operate for a non- (or anti-) technical person. As long as you go into a purchase of a router with this in mind, you'll probably be okay. Personally my technical knowledge of network and computer operations is pretty high, so my experience with this product may be different than most. I have to say that I love this router. In the world of routers, this isn't a "top of the line" product (see the D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router for that) but it's just one click down from that. I can't really justify spending the additional $30-$50 for a few more esoteric options. This router does wireless N and G very well. You will likely have to do some tweaking and

Ten This router hands down is a solid performer that beckons to be on radar. Configurability, performance, stability, firmware updates, D-Link has made a huge statement in a world of cheap routers that freezes, frustrates, and basically ridicules users that demand more out of their internet connection. Not sure if my Cisco CCIE VoIP certification makes any difference to this review but I can honestly say with what I do both at work and at home, I expect network device to perform to their specification and more. I also play hardcore online MMORPG with 5 accounts running through this router, no lag, no hiccups, performs like a star. A Router's first priority is stability, this thing is so solid, I wonder if there is something wrong with it. Without stability, nothing matters. With stability non-issue, next comes performance. When I prioritize my MMORPG traffic to 1 (highest priority possible), regardless of how many Torrent traffic in the background, or the 10 or so desktop/laptops that running in my home, this BEAST can take it. Functionality? I bought the LAN only version, no wireless, and I hook up my old Linksys Wireless-B router, disable DHCP, and this D-Link automatically detects, AUTOMATICALLY re-routes its network path internally, and can broadcast wireless network as an extension. READ: ease of use. Other functionality includes being able to lock down every MAC address easily, and assign easy to understand NICK NAMES to every individual laptops/desktops MAC Address with great organization and quick lookup for network troubleshooting. I like the ease of setting up Static IP assignments for key Gaming PC/Laptops that can be easily tracked, monitored, and configured for QoS applications. Though not as robust as professional software but I am able to track all TCP connections with their corresponding ports all in one convenient page. I am able to see if my little brother is downloading/uploading porn and shut it down if I pleases. Last but not least, the last update allows the router to update ANY/ALL changes WITHOUT requiring the router to REBOOT. THAT shot my rating up to the stars. 38 of 38 people found the following review helpful. Reliable Affordable QoS router By M This is a great router for the price. It's easy to configure and the documentation is pretty good. It explains the routing pretty well. What sets this router apart from others is the quality of service settings (QoS) that allow you to prioritize ports for bandwidth usage. You can set your streaming music or game ports to use a high priority and thus never get cut off by maxing out your bandwidth. This alone makes it worth the price. One thing to note: if you're on a Mac and try to configure this router through safari (It's web page configuration) it won't work because of a bug in safari. Use Firefox and you'll be golden. (Yes it works on Macs.) 24 of 26 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic performance for the money By Polo Guy In the 4+ months I've owned this router it's handled everything I've thrown at it, without even a hiccup. DSL, VPNs, QoS, heavily configured SPI firewall & filtering, Bittorrent, XBox Live etc etc. And unlike some other manufacturers I could mention, D-Link continues to release regular firmware updates/improvements for their products. The DGL-4100 has a very small footprint, generates next to no heat and its LEDs are blue and very bright. I guess the only word of caution I'd give is that it lacks a CLI. Administration is done via a set of built-in HTTP/Flash pages, accessible from any web browser. Personally I much prefer this GUI interface (no cryptic command lines to learn), but more hardcore network/telnet types may object to it. And BTW, if someone is having the exact same problem with three different brands of routers, their routers obviously aren't the problem. See all 102 customer

I received this cable modem when I signed up for Excite@Home and still use it now that I'm on another cable service. The small form-factor leaves a narrow, tiny footprint on a desk and the base is wide enough to make it stable and balanced. The LEDs flash to show activity and a combination of different lights (read the manual) helps when trouble-shooting connectivity problems with your ISP. I've been using this for over a year and it functions great and hasn't let me down. 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Flawless. By Rheumor I returned the cable company's rent-a-modem 2 hours after unpacking the Motorola. I have dynamic IP svc (unfortunately), so all that was required for setup was plugging it in and rebooting. (A call to the cable service was required to register the unit MAC ID). The DOCSIS 1.0 certification assures you it will work with most any cable provider. Also, I like the choice of ethernet (RJ14) or USB connectivity. Lastly, the internal transformer means the power plug is a normal size, so it can be plugged in on my desk without hogging the whole powerstrip. Nice modem, nice price! 13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. No Problems Whatsoever with SURFboard By A Customer I looked at several cable modems but chose this one because it came with both Ethernet and USB cables, because AT&T Broadband Internet lists it as an acceptable modem, and because it was Macintosh compatible. (After I opened the package, I found that Macs need the Ethernet cable, so it was nice of Motorola to include it.) The modem was easy to install and now downloads 1 megabyte in about 5 seconds under OS X. See all 24 customer reviews...

BLACK 100FT CAT6 CAT 6 RJ45 PATCH ETHERNET NETWORK INTERNET CABLE 100' FT

If you look at the end of the connector it is not copper colored, it is silver colored. I might detect a slight hint of copper color at the right angle though, so it may be copper clad aluminum, so be gentle with it at least if you choose to get it. That said, it is Cat6 and is marked as "TIA/EIA 568B.2-1 UTP CAT6". I tested it while still coiled up with a cable certifier, and it tests good for 1000Mbps. But I don't have a true known-good copper 100ft cat6 patch cable to compare NXT/FXT and attenuation in a less than perfect environment. 2-stars off for false product description / inferior materials to stated specs. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good value for Cat6 By AreGee Nice value priced solution to get Cat6 in substantial length. Connectors have a nice design to pull through when routing through joists and barriers. 0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Terrific By Beverly Gordon I used this cable to run from my router to my Apple TV and BluRay - can't beat the price. See all 3 customer reviews...

Sen I have been looking for a router with decent range, speed, support for USB based external NTFS drives and last but not the least, good QoS support for VoIP phones. Another important thing that perhaps everyone wants but forgets to mention is reliability. I expect it to keep on working once it has been setup. I have had this router for just couple of days so far and cannot comment on reliability yet, but other requirements have been met quite well. The specs were something to die for - 480MHz (capable of 533MHz) processor, 128MB RAM, 32MB ROM and runs Linux with support for bittorrent and FTP right in the firmware. Even the firmware source code is GPLed and anyone with a bit of knowledge in this area can improve it. In fact, DD-WRT (an open source Linux based firmware) is already available and works quite well with this router. With DD-WRT installed on this router, it becomes quite a powerful computer that can serve as a web server as well as a NAS once you connect an external hard drive to the USB port. QoS and Port Forwarding have been implemented quite well in DD-WRT and is the main reason why I had to install DD-WRT within few hours of receiving the router. [...] I would have given the router a 4.5 rating if I could as the firmware it came with had a few bugs. I could never get port forwarding to work and also QoS setup in the original firmware is limited. Here are some pros - 1. Gigabit ethernet, excellent processor and so the performance. Asus claims 300,000 concurrent sessions, which should be enough to handle even commercial hotspots with hundred users. 2. It has 2 USB ports that support various devices. One could connect a USB printer and a cheap external hard drive at the same time. The printer would work as a network printer (available to all computers in the network) and the USB hard drive will be available as Network Attached Storage to everyone without paying hundreds for one such device. 3. DD-WRT availability. They are constantly improving and adding features. QoS (Quality of Service) is one such feature that is needed in any household that has a VoIP phone and lot of online activity in the background like uploading videos to youtube, p2p, online gaming etc. With proper QoS setup phone service or online gaming shouldn't be affected even with other large scale online activity. 4. The original firmware is image based and looks quite nice. I found it very intuitive. Cons - 1. Should have been dual band (separate bands for G and N traffic), the chipset supports it. I am running in mixed mode as several of my devices (iPhone, Fuze, Wii) support only G mode and in mixed G/N mode, N components operate predominantly at G speed. 2. The original firmware is buggy and I couldn't get port forwarding to work reliably after several tries. QoS, the main reason behind me upgrading from a D-Link, is not implemented as well as I expected. DD-WRT fixes both issues but first-time owners may not be savvy enough to reload a 3rd-party firmware on their brand new router. All in all, it's an excellent purchase for the capability and price, especially when you consider Cisco charges more (sometimes twice) for routers with slower processors and much less RAM and flash memory. Update: Updated the links since Amazon yanked them. Also would like to add that the reliability is quite good so far with DD-WRT. Has been running for 3 days straight and no issues/slowdown etc. 43 of 45 people found the following review helpful. Rocky start at first but smooth sailing now By Captain Awesome First off, let me say here and now that a good router is one of the most difficult components to choose. I had some specific requirements which were as follows... 1) Stable wireless signal, ie not dropping all the time, also decent range and good throughput. 2) At least 4 gigabit ports for switching. 3) Dual band

Some things to know before you choose a dlink router By SAM The following will likely save you a couple of hours of research... The DIR-655 is single-band (2.4GHz). The DGL-4500 is dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), however it only uses one band at a time. You choose which band, manually, in the configuration. It doesn't choose the best band in real-time, or anything like that. The DIR-855 is dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and uses both bands at the same time. 83 of 84 people found the following review helpful. Happy with a few nitpicks By Truth Teller I bought this router almost immediately after it came out and have had it running for about 90 days at the time of this writing. I have it hooked up wirelessly (G) to my Xbox 360 for Xbox live, wirelessly (N) with my MacBook Pro, use it over gigabit ethernet with two other PCs in my house, and have it hooked up to an HP all in one over ethernet. It has worked without problem with all of these devices. I set it up to use mixed G and N modes and I am seeing very good speeds with the Xbox (about 52 Mbps) and the Macbook Pro (about 117 Mbps). I can easily see about 8 neighbors networks and have multiple cordless phones in the house, so with this router running in mixed G / N mode I think that these speeds are perfectly acceptable. I have no longer noticed any slowdowns when my wife decides to surf the internet while I'm playing Xbox Live. It seems as though the router's automatic "Gamefuel" QoS technology is correctly prioritizing the Xbox traffic over my wife's internet surfing. I didn't have to set up anything special. I just let the router do automatic configuration of the Xbox via UPNP (no manual port forwarding, etc). Configuration-wise it is really pretty simple. I had it up and running pretty quickly. However, I would strongly recommend that the first thing you do with this router is go to the D-Link web site and get the latest firmware before doing any configuration (assuming the firmware is out of date). Nitpicks: - If you upgrade the firmware, you have to manually export the router configuration to file, upload the new firmware, and then import the saved configuration after the firmware update. Otherwise, you'll lose your settings. It works fine, but is a little annoying since my Linksys used to save setting automatically for firmware upgrades. -The web based configuration interface is definitely functional, but it looks rather out of date. - A number of the settings changes require a total reboot of the router and the reboot is definitely slower than it has been on some other routers I've owned. - The router is dual band, but not simultaneously dual band. You have to choose which band you want to use. Bottom line: - I'm happy. I'd buy it again. It works fine with a Mac, a Windows box, a network All-In-One printer, and my Xbox. WARNING: - DO NOT UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE ABOVE version 1.15. There are many known issues with firmware newer than this. 51 of 54 people found the following review helpful. The best router I've ever owned! Works with everything! Great web-based interface. By Lars Milano This router has solved all my home networking woes and I've had a lot of them. Granted, it's fairly complicated for a home network in that there are many devices connected both wired and wirelessly from various macs and PCs, home theater receiver, music server, network printers, network storage drives, game consoles (ps3, xbox, wii), etc. In the past I've used a combination of various routers to make things work properly. From different versions of Apple airport (express, extreme, extreme "N") to various Belkin and Linkysys models, even the supposedly foolproof WRT54G model. The problem with the Apple airport models has been their inability to allow open NAT for Xbox Live gaming, not to mention the playstation network. I love Airport networks and their integration with OS X and all its cool

But it consumes too much electricity if your powerful desktop machine just runs the whole day for downloading stuff. So I am looking for something more energy efficient. I was attracted to the ezdownloader from another maker. But it price tag was a little high and I guess there must be a competitor out there with a better price/feature ratio. So I researched the US Market and then the TW and HK market. There are definitely similar products with much cheaper price. Finally I came to this one - the Sapido 3G N+ Wireless Audio/Video Router. What this is: - A wireless router - that serve as any other router out there, you may just hook it up to a DSL/cable modem to get wifi at your home/office. - A NAT server - you may attach a USB drive to it and access the drive as as SAMBA network drive. The drive can be format to NTFS. I believe the limit is 1.5TB. I am using only a 250GB so it is good enough for me. - Webcam server - I haven't tested this feature yet. As the spec indicates, you should be able to plug in a webcam and access it from a webpage. It sounds fun, isn't it? - Finally, the most important factor - A BT downloader. You access this router via a webpage interface, upload the .torrent file, and it will download the contents for you! It allows a list of 20 torrents, with 2 active download running. Unlike the ezdownloader, where you must use the vendor's website to control the download, this router will be access from the LAN only. Depends on how your LAN gateway is set up, you can assign this router as your Web server at your current IP. If you do that, then you may access the router from outside (anywhere over the world). The set up was not straight forward for non-geeky users. But just be patient and you should be done in 30 minutes. There is no manual provided - only a big folded piece of the instruction paper with diagrams. Since my broadband gateway is already wireless, I use this a wireless Access Point. Yes, you can use this a wireless "client" to your existing wireless network. Then itself can be used as a wired + wireless access point. There are four ethernet ports available to use. I hook my PS3 and XBOX to it and it works great! The samba network drive can be detected by the PS3 automatically. I am able to watch the movies directly from the PS3 without doing anything extra. The Pros: - A lot of feature to play with. - Wireless AP (the 3G network feature is not tested, but could be a big plus to someone) - Support BT - Support Samba - Upgradable firmware - Web access from outside The Cons: - BT page not compatible completely with all web-browsers. It likes Firefox and IE more. - Can't handle Asian character sets - all characters of the downloading file name will be converted to hex byte representation of the character. It makes reading back of the file name difficult sometimes. Not a problem if the file was created before hand and copied to the USB drive. - The saved path sometimes can not be handled by Windows explorer, if you plug the USB drive to your PC. However, you may use a ftp client to ftp to the router and access the drive to rename the files before moving back to Windows. => It definitely can do some improvement on the file system. Conclusion: overall this product is great product of integrated features. However, I did spend some effort finding it. I think the sales department from Sapido should promote it a little better so a bigger consumer crowd can see its availability. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. If you have multiple televisions or run a cable modem for your internet, this product is recommended. By having four ports come directly off of the amplifier, there is no need for additional splitters, which reduce signal strength. If you are tired of tv pictures that don't seem as clear as they should be, dropped internet connections, or just desire a reliable amplifier to give continuous, steady signal to your home or business, this is for you!

Dixon After getting my first HDTV, I was dismayed that my signal was too low to maintain a constant picture (even on non-HD channels). Having multiple devices requiring a cable signal, I needed to amplify as well as split my incoming signal. This splitter/amplifier did the trick! Very high quality item. Solidly built. Everyone should buy this thing! 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Nice amp By Huskymaniac The amp appears to do a good job improving my signal strength. It feels like a well built professional amplifier unlike the junk you find in Radio Shack, Walmart, etc. I like that you can inject the power into the wiring network from any location but I didn't need to do that. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Works like a champ - cleaned up my picture By Video Guy 40333 When I ordered it I actually received a slightly different product than what is pictured here, but I think it is just a newer model. Same number of outputs, but it is really, really small - only about 4 inches square including the connectors. I had a crummy picture on a couple of TVs, and the digital cable would drop out and pixel once in a while. I replaced 2 splitters with this thing and now my channels stay clear across the board, and my tivo dvr looks a lot better too. The only thing left is my cable modem, and I was told not to connect it to this amp, plus I did not have enough ports to connect it. There is another product that I was thinking of trying, supposedly you can connect anything to it and it will work - including a cable modem. Check your speeds if you get this router By groff5 I've had several routers over the years, and this one is the best so far. Range is great, speed is great, but best of all is the setup. Has a CD that makes it very easy, and when you are done it gives you a diagram of your entire network, including the names of each computer. I've set up several routers over the years, so I know what I'm doing, but who wants to spend time messing with it? I believe just about anyone could do this one. I've had it about a month, and I love it. Update: I found out that my download speed was cut by 85% to my HARDWIRED computer when the ethernet cable was routed through the router (which it has to be) and then to my desktop computer. I found this out accidentally when checking speeds, and then got on the Linksys website and ask for help. I got a response and they had me change some obscure (MTU) settings (which I still don't understand), and it fixed the problem. My issue is, NOWHERE in the instructions does it even hint that you might need to do this. Otherwise, the router works fine. But if you get it, check the download/upload speeds before and after the installation. 46 of 48 people found the following review helpful. best router i've had By Nick Beharry very cool. the usb drive is EASY to map as a network drive with a letter and it works fast enough. right now i'm backing up from the drive wirelessly to my computer and it is transferring data at a rate of 1GB in about 20 minutes. to some that will sound slow, but to me thats VERY fast. especially when you consider the price at which you're getting this utility. you can turn a USB drive into a network drive. (mine is 250 GB external). i still have not read the instructions for the device yet. tomorrow i will look into customizing the security options. i am terribly excited about now having a network drive from which all 3 of my computers can access files. no more storing pictures or music or files on 1 of the 3, now everything is stored on the "network drive" and backed up to my main computer. my wife and i love it. just $85. also interesting is that the compression rate is currently about 20%, so i think that means by the time my current backup is complete, my 44GB network drive might be compressed to under 9GB. i'll see, but it should give you some idea. as for the networking features, the signal is very strong and reaches in my basement, so my buddy down there is happy too. i find the description of the network controls you get to be really understated. you can block and allow websites and computers and you get a lot of other useful controls. its very user friendly and the only thing you'll really need to refer to the manual for is to see how to access the usb drive from your computer - its EASY. the tricky thing is restricting admin access to just yourself - trying to figure that out. will do it tomorrow. i hope this review helps. i would recommend to anyone to get this router - i'm not a techie, so my expectations are "normal" and this has exceeded my expectations by far. its very similar to using the network drive at my job. the best part of it all to me is that i now have all my files stored in one place and finally made good use of my external usb hard drive, which will now always be connected. can't beat that. good luck and vote me up if this review was helpful. 19 of 21 people found the following review helpful. Worth the Higher Price-- Definitely! By Terri J. Rice We went through three other brands, each time returning them for an exchange of another in their cheaper price range; finally we tried this Linksys and ta da!! it worked fantastically. If you are like me and totally don't know how to install things on your computer, never fear, it comes with a CD that walks you through the process. If you know what you're doing you can skip the CD and browse the "Quick Installation Guide." Yep, it costs

PCX1100U installed with AT&T Broadband By Lucchese Bought this to replace a leased cable modem with AT&T (old modem: Nortel LanCity installed by ISP about 4 years ago.) Received the PCX1100 and installed it same day with no problems. Logged into online chat session with AT&T support - got it registered and activated in less than an hour. There was NO (i.e. zero) user configuration required - hardware or software. Just gave AT&T the ser# and MAC address, plugged in cables, went to the AT&T registration website, and then waited about 20 minutes for them to activate in their system, before giving it a power cycle. At that point everything worked as normal, but faster. Configuration settings if any, were done by AT&T. As delivered it's just a black box to the user, although software exists on the web which allows access to internal settings. QuickStart software CD-ROM delivered with modem for installation walk-thru, but doesn't access internals. PCX1100 is noticeably faster than previous leased modem. 26 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Could be great but ...... By A Customer When the Toshiba modem is running, it is running great. However, one thing that the Toshiba modems suffers from is packet loss. This particular model is very sensative to RF signal noise. Because of it's sensativity to RF siganals, you will experience lags of 15 to 25 seconds because of packet loss. Other modems that I have tested are not as sensative and don't suffer from this problem. I would still recommend this modem if you only surf the net. However, if you plan on using this modem for gaming or streaming content off of the web, stay away. 10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Works great, good value By Eric Krieg I have the previous version of this product, which does not have USB connectivity. It works flawlessly. It more or less set itself up, I just entered some info from the cable company (AT&T Broadband), like the IP address and the mail server. It has been on 24-7-365 since then, without a problem.I generally get download speeds in the 700 kbps range, even though AT&T claims 1.5 Mbps downloads. But I don't think the bottleneck is the cable modem. The price of this modem keeps dropping. ... I see it is well below that now, with extra features. You've got to love that.I'd be quicker to buy this product because it is a Toshiba than something cheaper from a no-name company. The cost differential is not that high. Customer Reviews more helpful for 151 144 people found the following review helpful. An experienced, but simple, the first opinion of the user by Michael J. Descy I picked this router for two reasons: (1) I wanted my Wireless-G Wireless-N (draft), update to faster file transfers between my computers, (2) I wanted a router, I found my parents give less, so I could wifi there when I visit them. I had a Linksys WRT54GS router current that good speed Wireless-G (I could not complain) and excellent uptime, stability and reliability had. The main disadvantage is that the firmware a few features I would like to add the IP address for my PC is stable and can not be shown that tomato or DD-WRT. When I got the router, I decided to replace it, without using the Windows configuration (network equipment can not Windows), and place it in the form of an advanced user router. First Impressions/Hardware Impressions This router looks very nice The lines are clean (there is no external antenna). The plastic is shiny. The lights on the front are stylish. The only thing I didn't like was that the manual said that the unit MUST be used in the vertical position, due to concerns about operating temperature (and probably the internal antenna, too). This is fine and all, but I liked the ability of the Linksys and other routers I've owned to be wall-mounted or positioned horizontally. The router is set up thoughtfully, and I like the on/off switch; I've never seen one on a router before, and I don't intend to use it, but it's nice to be able to turn off a piece of electronic equipment for a change! The packaging was spartan, sensible, and minimal, which I liked. Initial Setup The router comes with a CD with a Windows-based setup wizard. As a Mac and Linux user, this made me a bit nervous. Netgear seems to understand this, and gently aimed at the help files on the CD-ROM, which in turn point to the instructions in "manual" installation instructions were clear, concise, and had clear illustrations. Are minimal, however. No outline of the capabilities of the router firmware, I was curious about. Firmware As for my Internet research told me, open source, third-party firmware like DD-WRT is not compatible with this router. I love running alternative firmware on my old Linksys router, but the version I have (WRT54G version 5) does not support it. Fortunately for me, the firmware of your router has a lot more functionality. Using the manual setup instructions, I found I could connect to the router with the address [...] instead of your IP address, which I thought was a nice touch. (Routers like this have a web interface that lets you adjust all the settings available in one of his PC.) ) The firmware presents you with a three-pane interface The right-hand pane is context-sensitive help for each function. The contextual help is pretty useful, actually, for intermediate-to-advanced users. Most home users wouldn't look at it, I don't think. Anyway, the first time you connect to the router, it automatically checks for firmware update--a good feature. The best feature of this router, to an advanced user with a home network set up, is IP address reversation: You can force the router to give the same IP address to each of your computers, every time they connect. This is great for home servers, and is so easy to set up on this router, as compared to setting up static IPs on each computer. The router also has Quality of Service (QoS) features, which allow you to shape how much bandwidth is used for internet, voice, instant messaging, video games, and so on. Personally, I don't use this, but I would have loved it back when I was a VoIP customer. There are, of course, many features that I consider standard, such as DHCP and port forwarding All in all, I was impressed with the stock firmware and don't feel a need to replace it. Speed Large (1.

Most helpful customer reviews 46 of 48 people found the following review helpful. Great platform for open source firmware By G. Frank Best features for the open-source router firmware enthusiast: - built in pre-amp on Rx and power amp on Tx. Note that it's not real MIMO as the name might lead you to believe, but the amps make it have "MIMO-like performance" (which I've found is true). - high gain antenna - so it has a better S/N ratio than the Linksys WRT54GL, which has been the defacto standard - support for 'afterburner' protocol (ie. 125 Mbit/s) - Widely supported by open source firmware, eg. OpenWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato, X-Wrt, etc. And those enable it to have the most wonderful features, eg: - WMM for smooth VOIP calls using T-Mobile's UMA phones - WDS for creating a set of cascaded routers blanketing a large area - Adjusting the power output directly on the Atheros on-board chip - WPA2 with AES (WPA2 more secure than WPA, AES encryption scheme faster than TKIP), plus the ability to support mixed modes so that older devices that don't support WPA2/AES can use WPA/TKIP) - and so much more If you don't know about the merits of open source router firmware, you should read up! Challenges: - DD-WRT, OpenWrt, X-Wrt, Tomato or other open source firmware needs to be flashed with TFTP - you can't do it with the web GUI. But it's easy. Just requires timing the transfer as you switch it on. - Buffalo encrypts their firmware so if you screw it up and want to revert back to Buffalo firmware, you can't just upload it from the web gui of whatever firmware you've installed. You have to upload the decrypted version from DD-WRT's site, and then from there you can upload the latest Buffalo version from their website Note: because of the built-in power amp, you shouldn't just set the power output to jam out as much juice as it can. That will make the output signal distort and actually decrease the range. I found that the best S/N ratio is obtained at about 75 mW. (Default setting is 28 mW). 54 of 59 people found the following review helpful. This one's a keeper! By Kevin Nicholls After my trusty Netgear router died on me, I decided to "step up" and get a pre-N router. The experience was less than delightful. Then I decided to give the Linksys WRT54GX4 a try. It was okay for a little while, but started dropping connections like crazy after a week or so. Finally, after lots more research, I decided on the Buffalo and DD-WRT firmware. Talk about striking gold! My connection hasn't dropped in weeks, and the throughput is considerably better than most WAP's and wireless routers I've used I installed DD-WRT out of the box, so I can't really speak to the quality of the built-in firmware, but the hardware is excellent. I've pushed the signal power to the mid 100's and overclocked the processor, with no obvious signs of overheating. So while this doesn't have the heatsink that the lower-priced version has, I haven't noticed any heat issues. My only gripe is that the link lights for wired connections are above the ports in the back. That's great for a racked switch in a server room, but not so good for keeping an eye on things at home. Otherwise, I would have given this product a solid 5. 39 of 42 people found the following review helpful. Best Router Ever By S. Lancaster Due to security reasons, I wanted to update my 802.11b dlink network to the g network. After trying the every (and I mean every) 802.1 11g router on the market, I firmly decided on this Buffalo router and I couldn't be any happier! Linksys just wouldn't work with my Bellsouth DSL connection (even after trying PPOE settings), Netgear just did not perform adequately (range was very short and setting it up was a major ordeal) I would have been extremely satisfied with the Belkin routers (MIMO and not MIMO) since setting them up was a breeze and the easiest setup on the market today, but again range was an issue (I couldn't get past 50 feet in my house). The Buffalo router was everything I.
