It is fully compatible with Verizon, AT&T, Qwest, Earthlink, and other DSL Internet service providers. With the NETGEAR DG834G, you have the freedom to switch DSL providers without having to change equipment, and you don't have to waste money by paying a monthly leasing fee. Elegant Design and Easy Setup The DG834G is an attractive unit, about the size of a small paperback, with a silver exterior and rounded edges. An included plastic stand lets you stand the router on its edge to take up less space. The DG834G makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network. Just connect the DSL line, run the Smart Wizard with step-by-step instructions, and you're all set. Once your network is set up, the router's "Push 'N' Connect" feature takes over. To connect a new device on your network, you simply push a button on the router, and your device is automatically and securely configured and connected to your wireless network. This means that the days of having to remember complicated security keys and passwords are over. (This feature is for use with other Push 'N' Connect or WPS enabled devices.) Fast and Secure Performance Wireless G offers data speeds of up to 54 Mbps, making it possible to share a broadband Internet connection, stream music without hiccups, watch videos with less load time, and videoconference without delays. If you still run computers that use the 802.11b standard, don't fret: the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard. In addition to providing wireless access, the device also includes four 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a faster, wired connection. The DG834G offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks. To ensure the security of your wireless data, both 40/64-bit, 128-bit, and 152-bit (802.11g only) WEP encryption is available, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network. Smart and Green Design The router has an elegant and clean design with several environmentally sensitive features. An on/off switch lets you turn off the router when it's not in use. Energy Star compliant, the DG834G is stingy in its power use, and with packaging that's made of 80-percent recycled materials, it's as green as it gets. The NETGEAR DG834G Wireless-G Router with Built-in DSL Modem measures 6.9 x 1.1 x 4.7 inches (WxHxD) and is backed by a 1-year warranty. This powerful router distributes MP3s, digital movies and photos with ultra-fast 10/100 switched LAN ports capable of speeds of 200 Mbps, and shares a single IP address with up to 253 users. And, it boasts double the memory and a 50 percent faster CPU than many popular routers. No need for a separate modem - this connects directly into your ADSL line. Built-in Port Forwarding settings, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP-) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through make it simple to play Internet games, send instant messages, and host Internet services. Loaded with features, elegant and very easy to use package. I got it, it connected and logged into the web management. The first thing I did was to the latest firmware and that was a very smooth operation that lasted less than five minutes to apply, then set it to automatically figure out my DSL connection and I clicked yes, but it was always so do I and went into the configuration manually. Unlike some other routers, a router is not necessary to restart the new settings which is a very good plus applicable. I was up and running in minutes. Then I started exploring the possibilities and found many of them. The wireless access point can be configured to b, g or b and g (default) support, the only downside is that you must manually select a channel. I think there must be better to skip the clearest channel automatically Other elements of the network of registries containing the flags to enable / disable logging certain events such as denial of service attacks or attempted access to blocked sites. Advanced Lock site that eliminates the need for a proxy server, you can activate by time or full-time or disable it. You can also exclude some trusted clients of the cuts. Firewall is also a nice feature, and can be programmed to activate and deactivate all the time. You can also send items in a certain direction. The downside is that u need an SMTP server, I believe the router should have been alone. You can also deigned the router and the LAN and WAN through the diagnostics page, set static routes, enable remote management of the router through the WAN, and my favorite of all time of service: the router has an integrated DynDNS client if u have a desire to have a dynamic IP hostname fixed! Finally, you can backup and restore settings for u do not have to go through all the settings again if you had to reset ur router! Actually, I think it's worth the money paid and a few drawbacks I mentioned are no big deal at all, and the advantages outweigth now, if you want to save money, save desk space and a 5 - to -1 for device all your needs (ADSL modem, advanced router Ethernet connection, wireless access point and firewall), then go for it! I'm glad I bought! Dec. 12 people found this review helpful. An all in an excellent device for the average user (s). Man W. Chow Installation was not hard - much harder than installing the software, AT & T got on the line to a fictitious account, addresses, etc. If you provide software such as MS Office installed, for example, you can certainly do this . It takes about 15 minutes and you will be guided through each step of the road. Reliability is excellent. In almost one year of constant use, left on almost constantly, this modem never dropped. DSL router modems are essentially little computers, and this is well built, both in terms of physical architecture and software. My connection is a low cost, about $ 13 per month through ATT, and is limited to 75kbps. I'm constantly getting download speeds of between 56-76kbps. I am convinced that if I have a faster connection, which would accordingly have been better. Heat distribution is excellent. I do not know why some argue that this modem easily overheat, but I remember in Los Angeles, where the temperature often reaches inside in the 90 years that I rely on them almost constantly ... and keep in mind that I'm not the materials, which leave little stand (improves heat dissipation) for about 10 months (I've made in parentheses in the if I were to save space). It has never overheated. The signal strength is great. I run two laptops from the wireless connection. No problem. Auto Mobile recognize and shaking hands almost immediately. In rare cases, I turn it off after it takes a.
