Apparently, gave way as my old 2Wire Home Portal 1000 final after ~ 7 years of use (aka death), I called AT & T and assumed that they would send a replacement ADSL modem messages. Au contraire. Said that I was on my own, and was frankly quite shocked as I am a big AT & T customer. I use an Apple AirPort Extreme wireless network (Wireless Distribution node 5) and do not want / need to buy the latest 2Wire WiFi equipment on about $ 200, but I wanted more than one Ethernet port on the device. BTW - I ran home gateway in bridge mode. D-Link DSL-2540B is the right thing, but I hesitated when I configure the modem in bridge or ne-bridging mode, then I will join the network of PPPoE on my AirPort Extreme Base Station deployment needs. I found the following information in the network configuration (see below), while searching for different solutions, and since my DSL-2540B today, I was up and running in 10 minutes of performance and connectivity has been great. AT & T Bridge Settings Connect the computer directly to the D-Link. Using a cable, as Wi-Fi-masochism is beyond the scope of this document. Browse to http://192.168.1.1/ browser of your choice. If the system is assigned an address 169.mumble, you first have to manually assign your computer an IP address like 192.168.1.5, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway of 192.168.1.1 to do it. You should be challenged for a username and password to continue. By default these are both set to "admin" and you should really change that at some point. You should be presented with a Home / Wizard screen. Uncheck the box "DSL Auto-Connect". This allows you to specify the VPI and VCI for the connection. For most of the ISP in AT & T ILEC footprint, will be 0 and 35, respectively, click Next. You should be prompted to set the connection type. Select the radio button for "Bridging" and drop down the menu item "LLC / SNAP-bridge". Click Next. You will be presented to the configuration screen of the device. The default settings are sufficient for most home use. Click Next. You will be presented to the wireless configuration screen. If you want to disable wireless for some reason (and should have bought instead 2320B), uncheck "Enable Wireless". Click Next. You will be presented with a summary of the configuration. Read carefully to ensure that you understand, then click on "Save / Reboot". The DSL-2640B is restarted, after which you should have an Internet connection. 27 of 30 people found this review helpful. Works with my Verizon DSL, but not always horny first car connection does not work for Verizon, but manual configuration will work, the following settings for Verizon. I have Verizon DSL with DHCP, no PPPoE or PPPoA, which means I have a dynamic IP address from Verizon. I had to disconnect the old modem overnight to release the IP address would be my old modem and then connect the dlink modem and go to the browser and create new dlink wan new setting and enter VPI = 0 VCI = 35, MAC encapsulation, Routing = LLC / SNAP bridge, get an IP address
