SOHO good gateway Timothy Walker, when assessing this type of equipment, we must distinguish between the device and other factors that may affect performance. Blame manufacturer of questions that can be caused by an ISP is similar to saying "I can not get past the third team because of all this construction on the road ... I will never buy a new Jaguar!" That said, SBG6580 is a solid piece of kit. The latest addition to the line of SURFboard DOCSIS 3 cable modem combined with a gigabit switch and a dual antenna 802.11n wireless access point, providing all network equipment needs a home office in a compact package ... This corresponds to a single fault, but it is normal for residential course. Can offer 42 Mbps downloads on one channel (as my supplier that makes "Ray") with the support of eight bonded channels ... which means that when the day comes when the ISPs start selling three-digit speeds, this site will not have to be replaced Wi-Fi was comparable to my old project n router with similar range and performance in a mixed mode environment. What separates the SBG6580 are your best indicator lights and configuration utility top, which offers several options usually found only in enterprise-level team. The less inclined to move should know that the button will be supported once the type of cable terminated with the output, the installation took less than five minutes. Finally, a word of warning: SBG6580 needs air flow. Originally placed in line with the hard drive back the same size on my desk and found the car warm to the touch after several hours. To avoid problems, do not block the vents. 82 of 83 people found this review helpful. Not for the timid or ignorant to RB The SBG6580 can actually be a niece, all-in-one if you have patience and know-how to do it right the first configured, there is a feature called "IP Flood Detection" have been disabled. (It is located in the Firewall) The default is enabled. When activated, this feature makes the end of it all to slow to a crawl. Disable (uncheck box) and you'll never go flat again. And 'certainly a failure on the part of Motorola, if a function of poor first. I agree that the interface is clunky Motorola in general. It 'also powerful enough and advanced users can do more than what they want with it. Comcast is my career and I like the word DL throughput up to 4 Mbps (32 Mbps). Of course, with many of my applications are actually around 3 Mbps, which is fast enough for me. J 'I (2) wired computers, (1) wired printer, (1) wireless laptop (1), wireless printer, and (3) other networked devices. I experience a relaxed 'Reset' modem sometimes I still have to track down the causes. I can not blame the hardware (yet), but it happens with such irregularities (sometimes not for 5 days or more) is not a perfect modem / gateway, but is capable, if a hostile user touch. 42 of 43 people found this review helpful. Awesome up, down and around the D. McCall, I had this modem in force for a month and I was impressed in every respect. I've already had the Motorola 901 (which was a solid performer), and updated to reach the level of "N" wireless performance and be ready for DOCSIS 3.0 from my cable provider (Charter). I find this gateway performs the limits of my ISP (as in my case, my campaign is down 3 25 and up) and have a good "flow" in my house. Runs perfect including hosting seamless 4-way video conferencing (Apple iSight). For those who have problems, I suggest you relax your firewall settings a little, sure, especially in connection with scrubbing all packets is that your cable provider to give their contribution to implementation, including the right page.
